TWIST's 10 Fave Songs of 2011

Compiling this year's 10 most favorite songs was more of a challenge than doing last year's, mainly because I love more songs now as I shifted to listening to more current music (rather than digging into fave artists' catalogue which I did a lot last year).

In 2010, the song that ended atop a similar list of fave songs is California Swag District's "(Teach me) How to Dougie." I posted the 10 most favorite songs of 2010 at the bottom because, last year this time, I still didn't have the blog up.

The other day, I posted my top favorite albums of 2011. You can check that out by clicking here.

Back to this list, may I just say it was hard not to include so many of the songs that I loved the whole year. In fact, I even considered making it a Top 20, only so I could include everything. But I realized that it would defeat the purpose of listing down the 10 most favorite ones. So without further ado, here they are:

10. "Moves like Jagger," Maroon 5 feat Christina Aguilera
It's groovy, it's fun, it's fresh. The song's beat and melody result to pure earcandy. Of course, it doesn't hurt that two of my most favorite artists of all time were responsible for this hit. This is one of those songs that sound good today and, like wine, gets better in time.

Fave moment: Towards the end, when Christina was on!

9. "Rolling in the deep," Adele
Anyone who doesn't know this song has been living under a (sound-proof!) rock for the past year. With words and melody that speak to the heart, it's no wonder this can-relate-to song has become an international monster hit for Adele.

Fave moment: The back-up vocals are entertaining!

8. "Look at me now," Chris Brown feat Busta Rhymes & Lil Wayne
This is the song that got me to listen to Chris Brown's album, F.A.M.E. (which ultimately became one of my fave albums of 2011). Brown's part is sexy; Busta's portion is just sick; and Weezy, as usual, is reliable.

Fave moment: Busta's part; talk about fast!Watch it here!
7. "On the floor," Jennifer Lopez feat Pitbull
In this song, J-lo redefines what a sexy hit is! We all know she doesn't have the strongest vocals but she had enough to carry this song through. After all, it's a dance hit! And, oh yes, she sampled "Lambada" which is one of my faves as a child!

Fave moment: When "generation" sounded like "Jlo-ration"

6. "6 foot 7 foot," Lil Wayne feat Corey Gunz
Clever lyrics, this song has. I can't rap but I know a good rap song when I hear it. And this one is excellent. It's a couple of shades away from being my "Dougie" of 2011. But it didn't really come with an accompanying dance move! :)

Fave moment: "Fruits of my labor, I enjoy them while they still ripe"

5. "Love you like a love song," Selena Gomez and The Scene
I admit! I have begun liking Selena Gomez. But with a song like this, why not? The song is catchy and groovy. With this song, I managed to annoy my friends while I was in the US as I had this on re-pea-pea-pea-pea-peat the whole effing time! :)

Fave moment: Everytime Selena tries a higher note but can't! lol

4. "Pumped up kicks," Foster the People
I described their music as the freshest out there in the market right now. One listen to this song proves that statement true. I don't normally listen to alternative music but their album, particularly this song, has been on repeat in my iTunes forever!

Fave moment: When the whistle comes in! :)

3. "Blow," Ke$ha
No one else can come up with this kind of sexy-fun dance hit (with a very funny video to boot!) aside from Ke$ha. The Circuit Remix of the song is equally body bumping-worthy. This song deserves a Grammy!

Fave moment: "Blo-oh-ohoh-oh-oh-oh-ow!"

2. "Run the world (Girls)," Beyonce
I love singing to to my fave songs. But Beyonce is making it hard to do that with this one. It took me a while to like this song, but when I did, I really, really liked it. Everytime I hear it, can't help but just groove. If only the rest of her album, "4," was as festive as this ...

Fave moment: Her Billboard Music Awards performance! :)

1. "S&M," Rihanna feat Britney Spears
I didn't pay attention to this song until the remix version featuring Britney came out. Then I saw the two sexy singers perform it live on YouTube and that was it! The music industry needs more superstar pairings such as this!

Fave moment: "I like it, like it!" Need I say more?

Special mention to The Band Perry's "If I die young," which was originally at #6 but I removed it from the list upon learning it was a late 2010 release! Too bad!

Special mention as well to "Someone like you" by Adele, "Next to you" by Chris Brown and Justin Bieber, and "Price Tag" by Jessie J--originally at #7, #8, and #9 until I decided to revise the list to include three other songs I felt deserved to be in the list more.

Other runners up include Nicki Minaj's "Superbass;" Katy Perry's "The one that got away;" Lil Wayne's "How to love;" and Britney Spear's "Hold it against me."
