TWIST's 10 Fave albums of 2011

My list of favorite albums this year consisted of veteran artists as well as talented new comers, whose materials I keep on re-pea-pea-pea-pea-peat all year round.

This is the second year that I compiled a list of my fave albums. Last year, my list was topped by Bruno Mars' "Doowops & Hooligans." Since I didn't have my blog up then, I put up the list below (if you're at all interested).

Back to this year's list, many of the albums are in the pop-R&B and alternative genres, which isn't at all surprising. Eight of the 10 albums in the list are from solo performers while two are from groups. Without further ado, here they are:

10. Jennifer Lopez, "Love?"
The sexy diva's new album was sort of a comeback for her. It's an okay album but most definitely not her best. Half of the songs in the set are listen-able while the rest are bordering in blah. Still, I love the concept of the album as it allows J-lo to make hot videos yet again.

Fave songs: "On the floor," "What is love?" and "Papi"

9. Chris Brown, "F.A.M.E."
Love him or hate him, Chris Brown makes good music. This is the first time I listened to a Chris Brown album and it makes me wish I had listened to his parts efforts (I haven't gotten to doing that, but perhaps soon).

Fave songs: "Next to you," "Look at me now," and "Deuces"

8. Kelly Clarkson, "Stronger"
Everytime Kelly Clarkson releases an album, it makes my heart jump with joy. I loved her with "Thankful" (her first album) and I love her even more now. While "Mr Know it all" isn't exactly setting the world on fire, I'm sure the album will find its commercial stride soon.

Fave songs: "I forgive you," "Dark side," and "Mr Know it all"

7. Foster the People, "Torches"
Out of all the albums in this list, it's "Torches" that I least expected to make it in this year-end countdown. But when I heard "Pumped up kicks," I just had to get the album for myself. I was not at all disappointed, the group's is the freshest sound out there right about now.

Fave songs: "Pumped up kicks," "Helena Beat," and "Don't stop"

6. Britney Spears, "Femme Fatale"
I never was the biggest Britney fan, but I always look forward to what she's going to do next. The lead single off this album, "Hold it against me," didn't quite get me hooked at first but it definitely grew on me. The rest of the album captivated me at first listen. Great job, Brit!

Fave songs: "Inside out," "He about to lose me," and "Til the world ends"

5. Aqua, "Megalomania"
What a lovely surprise to know that Aqua came out with new material 11 years after their last. I was not even a teenager when they were a hit with "Barbie Girl." While their sound had obviously matured, it isn't less interesting. They're still fun and fresh as before--and very Aqua, if I may add.

Fave songs: "Like a robot," "Viva Las Vegas," and "Playmate to Jesus"

4. Beyonce, "4"
Lead single, "Run the world (Girls)," took a long time to grow on me but when it did, I got hooked big time. Beyonce's vocals are on point--she sings fast and slow songs with ease. Yet, if you compare the album to her last effort ("I am ... Sasha Fierce"), you'd find it's several notches down, at the very least.

Fave songs: "Run the world (Girls)," "Party," and "1+1"

3. Adele, "21"
To the surprise of no one, Adele made my list this year. "Rolling in the deep" was already in its 5th week at #1 in the US when I decided to listen to the album. When I did, I was amazed at this British singer's artistry. Her voice isn't at all like Mariah's, but hers is emotive and conveys messages effectively.

Fave songs: "Rumor has it," "Someone like you," and "Rolling in the deep"

2. Jessie J, "Who you are"
Jessie J's vocals are the strongest among all the recording artists' out there right now (sorry Beyonce!). Listening to her album is a joy--lyrics and song concepts are clever; melodies and hooks are catchy; and her personality is very evident in every note she sings. She actually reminds me of the young Mariah Carey, just singing her heart out. We need more of her.

Fave songs: "Abracadabra," "White Room," and "Price Tag"

1. Rihanna, "Talk that talk"
Riri comes out with a new album every year, and while her albums are always good, this is her best so far, in my humble opinion. While I think the album went over with so many sex innuendos (one of the songs is called "Suck my cockiness," need I say more?), the album shifted in the right direction with its sick beat and production values. Great job!

Fave songs: "Drunk on love," "We found love," and "You da one"
