Huawei launches world's slimmest smartphone--the Ascend P6

There’s something about being slim—it’s sexy and sassy; it stands out from the rest. But we’re obviously not talking about waistlines here; we’re talking about smartphones. And in the race to offer the world’s slimmest, Huawei has got the leg up. Big time.

With a sleek metallic body that measures 6.18mm, the newly launched Ascend P6, Huawei’s flagship phone, has rightly earned its distinction. It’s slimmer than the Apple iPhone 5’s 7.66mm and the Samsung Galaxy S4’s 7.9mm measurements.

It begs gadget lovers to ask themselves: “How in the world were they able to make it so thin, yet so powerful?”

They don’t have to wonder for too long. While other devices (such as those using Super AMOLED) uses the on-cell display technology, Huawei achieved the feat by using the in-cell display tech.

Huawei basically removed the middle glass display, then combined the touch and LCD display into a single layer, resulting in a more svelte phone. It’s precision detailing at its finest.

“The Ascend P6 is a star among smartphones with its industry-leading design, high-quality camera, and intuitive user interface. It’s simply stunning,” said Johnson Ma, country device manager of Huawei Technologies Philippines.

Huawei is a leading global information and communications technology solutions provider. Its products and services are deployed in over 140 countries, serving more than one third of the world’s population. It’s been known for providing mobile broadband devices but has recently been expanding aggressively with new lines of smartphones.

During the device’s launch last week, co-presented by Globe, the exclusive partner of the new Huawei device and the country’s leader in postpaid, the Ascend P6’s stylish and elegant look was centerstage. But its impressive specs were a statement in itself.

With its 4.7-inch real estate display, powered by a 1.5GHz quad-core processor, days where smartphones lag are supposedly gone. It also has an industry-leading 5MP front-facing camera. Its proprietary IMAGESmart software promises to amaze shutterbugs with results that look like they’ve been taken by a professional photographer, thanks to features that improves contrast and color enhancement, auto scene recognition, object tracing focus, and facial shots.

The smartphone boasts of an Android 4.2.2 operating system, and 2000mAh battery. It also features the ‘MagicTouch,’ a feature that enhances screen responsiveness, allowing users to command the touchscreen even while wearing gloves.

Not a lot of people know that many of key ingredients in delivering LTE and 3G connectivity in the country are made by or powered by Huawei. They’ve been working with telco companies for years. In fact, Globe’s Internet mobile stick, Tatoo, is Huawei-branded.

The Ascend P6 has been optimized to be compatible with these Huawei-branded devices, making connecting to Wi-Fi or LTE so much faster and more seamless. It saves battery this way which would have otherwise been wasted.

Aside from the Ascend P6, Globe and Huawei also launched the Ascend Mate, the perfect Android pocket cinema phablet for the fashion-forward, movie and gaming enthusiasts. More on this device on future posts.

It boasts the world’s largest screen on a smartphone and has a screen-to-body ratio of 73% – the largest in the industry. Its supersized 6.1-inch 1280 x 720p HD LCD retina screen provides visibility unsurpassed clarity and color accuracy. In addition, it is powered by the latest 1.5GHz quad-core Hi-Silicon K3V2 + Intel XMM6260 processor and a long-lasting battery, supercharging your entertainment, communication and creative mobile experiences.

“We are happy to beef up our device portfolio with the availability of Huawei’s newest smartphones, bundled with our Best-Ever MySuperPlan,” said Raul Macatangay, head of Globe Postpaid.

The Huawei Ascend P6 retails for P17,500. It’s available for as low as P999 monthly at Plan 499 (with P500 monthly cashout); or at Plan 999 (with P200 monthly cashout) both with a 24-month contract period from Globe.
