Pico de Loro pushes for a more active coastal lifestyle

With a natural terrain and well-equipped beach and country club fit for an active lifestyle, it isn’t surprising that Pico de Loro Cove at Hamilo Coast is espousing a more coastal and outdoor-oriented lifestyle.

After all, no other premiere destination can boast of an environment that can cater to a variety of sporty pursuits that combine fitness and fun such as running, cycling, swimming, kayaking, squash tournaments, and Frisbee games.

“Before the trend to go back to the healthy lifestyle fortunately seeped back into the consciousness of the Filipino people, we were already launching events that involve getting people outdoors to enjoy the environment while getting fit,” said Rona Torres-Tan, senior vice-president of Costa del Hamilo, Inc.

Pico de Loro Cove is the maiden development at Hamilo Coast, Manila’s premier coastal community located in Nasugbu, Batangas (some three-hour drive from Manila).

To further strengthen its commitment to providing sports and recreation opportunities for its members, they enjoined the husband-and-wife tandem of Dan Brown and Ani de Leon-Brown—both elite athletes—to head its sports and recreation activities.

According to Brown, there’s a lot of potential for Pico de Loro to attract elite athletes from here and abroad to train there regularly, coming from a professional athlete’s view point.

Brown is Head Coach of the Philippine Triathlon Team and is involved in training beginner to high performance endurance runners and triathletes. He has completed 15 Ironman races. Ani, on the other hand, is a three-time Philippine National Triathlon Champion and was the first Filipino to ever break into the top 10 in the Asian Triathlon Championships.

Dan and Ani have tons of activities in store for the coming year, incuding an adventure race with celebrity categories; swimming events; and running relays.

Members and guests were very happy with the push for a more active lifestyle. On a regular weekend, there could easily be as much as 200 visitors coming to the club. But for long weekends and holidays, as much as 500 visitors come to enjoy the facilities. Those numbers, unsurprisingly, continue to grow.
