Running for truth and honesty

Running events in the country have been launched to call attention to better care for the environment, some others for health, fitness and wellness. Others, still, are held for religious purposes while others to foster camaraderie. But the "Be Honest Run 2012" is different.

From the event's name itself, one can surmise that it is geared toward promoting truth and honesty in the lives of Filipinos. This run caught my attention because of its 15k category (which, surprisingly, isn't a very popular distance category).

Since I first joined a 10k-run in July 2008, I have yet to run further than 11.2 kilometers (which I set some 3 weeks ago). I am looking forward to making this the farthest run I've ran--ever! That excites me to no end!

A press release I received from the event's public relations arm states that no less than the country’s most celebrated boxing champion and now Sarangani Representative Manny Pacquiao is endorsing the run (and is expected to join the several thousands of runners).

The "Be Honest Run 2012," which happens on March 17 (Sunday) at the IMAX Parking Lot Seaside Boulevard in SM Mall of Asia is organized by the BCBP, a non-stock, non-profit organization, registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission in conjunction with its 32nd National Anniversary Celebration.

The activity is slated to kick off starting at 4:30 am with run categories 15K, 10K, 5K, 3K, & 500 Meters. More than 5,000 runners are expected to join. The entry fee is Php 550.00 per runner for any category.

The "Be Honest Run 2012" will have cash prizes up for grabs for the top three finishers of each category, as well as participating organizations, schools, running clubs or companies who will be able to form the biggest running group, according to the press release.

But what I am most looking forward to is the finishers’ medals that will also be awarded to the 10k and 15k runners. The last time I've received a medal for running was December of 2010, when I placed third in the Philippine Daily Inquirer Fun Run for its employees!

Good news: Registration for the event is extended until March 10! Interested runners may call the BCBP office at 874-8470 to 71 or email behonestrun@yahoo.com. They will ask for your email address and email you the registration form. You'll have to fill out the form and fax it to 874-8471 along with the deposit slip and signed waivers. See you all there! :)
