The most complicated (and funniest, too) lovestory

While “Leading Ladies” isn’t exactly billed as a romantic flick ala “Romeo and Juliet,” the show ultimately finds its interesting characters wrapped up in complicated love stories that would make the craziest relationships look ordinary—even boring.

“Leading Ladies” is the latest offering from Repertory Philippines. In it, main characters Leo Clark and Jack Gable are actors who pose as women in the hopes of claiming a $3 million inheritance of a rich, old lady whom they have no blood ties with.

The love angle enters when Leo and Jack—now playing the part of the supposed heiresses Maxine and Stephanie, respectively—met their “cousin” Meg and the dying lady’s part-time aide Aubrey. Because they couldn’t reveal their real identities, else they get jailed for trying to scam the family, the story gets funnier by the minute.

But that’s not where the complicated love stories end (Note: The following paragraphs may contain spoilers).

Before Leo (dressed up as Maxine) gets to tell Meg his true feelings, the latter confesses her love for Maxine. It turned out she had developed a strong feeling for the same sex. But this, of course, is not what Leo planned because he wanted Meg to fall in love with him—not the heiress he was posing as.

As for Jack (dressed up as Stephanie), he got his girl, Aubrey, when the latter broke up with her former boyfriend. But don’t think Jack was just lucky. Before he got Aubrey in his arms, he—as Stephanie—was first kissed by two grown up men.

It's a story that features twist after funny twist that should tickle the funny bones of just about anyone. Definitely worth checking out! :)

Last chance to catch the “Leading Ladies” this weekend at Greenbelt Onstage as the show wraps up on March 4. For tickets, call Ticketworld at 571-6926 or visit ticketworld.com.ph
