Why chocolate is still the star on Valentine's

Why chocolates seemingly have become the default gift during the most romantic celebration of the year, shouldn’t be a big surprise.

After all, chocolate is universal; loved by practically everyone the world over. With chocolate as gift to a special someone, especially on Valentine’s Day, you just can’t go wrong.

That’s according to Raul Matias, the owner of Machiavelli Chocolatier, a gourmet chocolate brand that has recently become the official chocolatier of Rustan’s. (Twitter account: @machchocolatier )

“Another great reason why the ‘chocolate is star’ during this occasion is because it contains phenylethylamine (a chemical that is often associated with mood and weight loss-related therapeutic benefits),” Matias said.

Paired with red roses and a cute teddy bear, giving chocolate to a special someone just seems sweeter, especially on Valentine’s Day. So cliché yet so true.

Since April 2009, Machiavelli Chocolatier has become synonymous with the best-tasting chocolates with the most exciting flavors in town.

“We’re not just in the business of selling chocolates, Machiavelli Chocolatier is a lifestyle,” Matias said. “We are glamour you can eat. We are the Hermes of chocolates!”

So as not to sound boastful, Matias was quick to add that he was just quoting customers who have tasted his chocolates. He did say, though, that he believes that Machiavelli Chocolatier is the best-tasting chocolates in the country—without batting an eyelash.
