TWIST's 10 fave foreign films of 2011

My love for horror films is reflected in the list of my favorite foreign movies in 2011, as "Insidious" comes out on top. For the whole year, I was able to see some 30 foreign films in theaters (and many more at home)--yet again a record number for myself.

Last year, "Inception" was my top choice in a similar year-end list I made (which I posted in my Facebook account). In 2009, it was "Avatar." The year just started, but with a host of promising films in store for all of us, I cannot wait to do this list again next year.

Several days ago, I posted a separate list for my top 10 fave local films of 2011. You can read that by clicking here. For now, here are the 10 foreign movies that has become my favorite for the year. Enjoy! :)

10. The Hangover Part 2
I loved, loved, loved the first installment of this franchise. And while this sequel is good, it's not at par with its predecessor. Nevertheless, it made me laugh quite a number of times. Plus, the film's cast are very likeable.

Fave moment: The last part--where they fill in missing details of the night with snapshots which the credits roll

9. In Time
Among all movies I saw in 2011, this one had the most promising concept of all. But in my opinion, it didn't fully deliver what it promised. But, yet again, I love Amanda Seyfried (who played alongside Justin Timberlake and Alex Pettyfer) which is why it managed to earn this spot.

Fave moment: When Timberlake and Pettyfer's characters were arm wrestling

8. Bad Teacher
This is one of those movies where I go "I have to see this film!" when I saw the trailer. Thankfully, the movie didn't disappoint. Cameron Diaz is indeed the "baddest" teacher around--and I love her!

Fave moment: When Cameron's character was washing cars. She was smoking HOT!

7. Transformers: Dark of the Moon
While the first of the three Transformers movie remains to be the best, this one comes in at a very close second. The new characters they introduced were interesting enough and the plot compelling, which make for a very engaging movie. I missed Megan Fox's character though!

Fave moment: Fight scenes--they were very realistic!

6. Unknown
Liam Neeson has become one of my favorite actors in Hollywood as of late. So seeing this movie was a must for me. With a compelling story like this one, I can't help but wonder why this didn't become a monster box office hit. Nevertheless, it's one thrilling movie--for the intelligent audience.

Fave moment: When they were trying to diffuse the bomb

5. Paranormal Activity 3
This is the second year in a row that this franchise made my list of year-end countdown ("Paranormal Activity 2" was second place last year). I love how the storytelling this time around gave more depth to the characters, although I'd rather know what happened to Hunter next (rather than go way back again and explore the sisters' childhood).

Fave moment: Towards the end, when the hags were attacking

4. Source Code
This movie has one of the most original concepts I've ever saw--and they delivered it swiftly until the last frame. It doesn't hurt that Jake is one of my favorite actors in Hollywood, too. It's almost like my "Inception" of 2011, except that I totally understand this film (lol) :)

Fave moment: Every time Jake's character would wake up in someone else's body

3. Sanctum
It's one of those edge-of-your-seat movies where you hold your breath for a while and only realize you've held it for a long time once you actually exhale. What initially got me to watch this film was the "From the Executive Producer James Cameron" tag. And Cameron delivered--as always!

Fave moment: When the young actor was on his way up from the bottom of the ocean with no more oxygen!

2. Limitless
With a kick-ass killer concept for a movie and effective actors like Brad Cooper and Robert de Niro, it's no surprise this movie made it to my list this high. It's that kind of movie that makes you think even after the credits have rolled in. It's by far Cooper's best movie.

Fave moment: The fight scene towards the end, when he had no more tablets left to become 'limitless'

1. Insidious
I've been a big fan of the "Paranormal Activity" franchise, so when I learned this movie was created by the same people behind those films, I said yes right away. Having seen a lot of horror movies, I know scary-as-shit when I see one. This is one of those goodluck-sleeping-later stories, I kid you not!

Fave moment: Towards the end, when Patrick Wilson's character was trying to get out of the realm he entered!
