PHOTOS: Batik-painting and kite-making communities in Malaysia

This man has made his living by making kites for more than 30 years!
If you've read my very Malaysia-centric blog entries this month, you'll know I've been to the neighboring country recently. Here are some photos from our visit at the batik-painting and kite-making communities in the quaint town of Kelantan (an hour plan ride away from Kuala Lumpur).

You see those humungous kites at the back? They actually fly! They're made up of layers of special paper.

This man, whose name I unfortunately wasn't able to take down, takes about a week to finish a big kite. (I promise to look up his name for our benefit and will update this entry as soon as I do) :)

Many of this kite-maker's neighbors has caught on making kites but he's obviously the most famous, having been featured in several local and international TV shows, magazines, and newspapers.

A woman puts initial design to the batik she's creating, before adding in the colorful paints
Many of these Malaysian women has been working in the factory for years
We tried to paint our own batik, but I'd rather keep the finish product
as it is not as nice to look at as this (haha)

Many of the batik are unique in design
