Kayaking in El Nido is an event in itself. I mean, what better way to see up close the imposing limestone structures than to pick up that paddle and put those biceps and core muscles to work?
When I got to visit this paradise sometime late last year for a story we did for SPACE Magazine, we didn't waste time marking this as "done" in our to-do list. Fortunately, the resort in Miniloc Island where we stayed were surrounded by the aptly named Big and Small Lagoons.
According to our guide, Kuya Marlon, these lagoons were once mountains which strong earthquakes turned into sinkholes eons ago. Over time, it turned into bodies of water and into the beautiful lagoons they are today.
I have tried kayaking before, but never in open water. Mostly, it would be near beach shores so this is a welcome change. The weather was perfect, the environment was crisp with cleanliness, and the only sound we could hear were chirping birds, leaves scraping against each other, and the echo of our voices.
Here are some more photos of our adventure. Enjoy! :)
