Skim boarding in Boracay--fun and falls; bruises and all

This is a screen grab from a video taken while I was skim boarding. I don't even want to post the actual video haha
I've been to the beach a million times but this is the first time I got to try out skim boarding. Over the weekend, I went back to Boracay (it was my fifth time) with friends and chanced upon a group of locals who taught me--or at least tried--how to successfully do this.

This kid does the headstand with no effort at all
Skim boarding obviously needs balance. I wasn't so bad in that division so after a couple of tries, I did get to do it without embarrassing myself too much. But, of course, not before fall after fall after fall.

Three days after skim boarding in Bora, I still got scrapes in my knees and legs from falling. But nothing too serious as to deter me from skim boarding again. For me, they're battle scars that should be worn proudly.

The thing with me is that I didn't mind falling on my butt because I knew I'll live (and I obviously did). So I just went at it. I am not at all suddenly an expert at it, but at least now I know how it feels to "play" this game or sport or what-have-you.

Before this trip, I didn't think anyone can skim board while sitting, let alone doing a headstand or pulling an on-your-belly trick. Needless to say, this is a great way to sweat. Because the game/sport involves running, too, it can easily tire you up.

Watch this amazing video as the kids show the different tricks in skim boarding:

We rented the skim board from the kids at P100 for 30 minutes. If you're in Boracay and would love to try this out as well, call Rickson at 09462747145.
