WEEK THAT WAS (July 1 - 7): Japanese Film fest; passport; schoolmates

The Japanese Film Fest runs until July 10 (Sunday) at the Shangrila Plaza.

I wasn't able to post a "Week that was" entry for the last week of June as it was a hectic period. But I make up for that with this entry of "Week that was" that actually covers two weeks. Here it goes:

1 Japanese Film Festival at Shangrila Plaza
Since the film fest opened on July 2 at the Shangrila Plaza, I've seen four films--"Summer Days with Coo" and "Feel the Wind" which were both fantastic and showed Japanese movies at their best; "Your Friend" was an okay film. The other film I saw--"Climber's High" was the exact opposite. It was a literal borefest! Since it was about reporters, I thought I'd be able to relate well. But no. It was dragging scene after dragging scene. After 45 minutes into the film, I couln't take it anymore and went out of the cinema. Catch the other quality movies until July 10 (Sunday).

2. Kelantan Food Trail in Malaysia
If you've read this and this blog entries, you'd know that I'd been to Malaysia recently. I've been in Malaysia twice but has yet to explore KL. Tourism Malaysia, please invite me there! :)

3. My passport renewal brouhaha
Before I was able to fly to Malaysia, I had to pull some strings. If you've read this blog entry, you'd know I had trouble renewing my passport. I had to make several calls before I was able to get in touch with someone from DFA who assists members of the media. It was a Friday afternoon when I called him. Monday I got a SMS from DFA Lucena (where I renewed my passport) telling me my passport was ready for pick-up. If my passport didn't arrive that morning, I wouldn't have been able to fly to Malaysia.

4. Most played song for June
Lauren Alaina of "American Idol" fame (she was runner up for Season 10) takes the most played song for June in my books with her song "Like my mother does." Runners up are "Moves like Jagger" by Maroon 5 and Christina Aguilera; and "I am woman" by Jordan Sparks. Last May, the most played song was Beyonce's "Run the world (Girls)."

5. It's a small world
Yesterday, I was walking around Shangrila Plaza, burning some time before the movie starts. As luck would have it, I ran into a grade school classmate who I have had no contact whatsoever (not even Facebook) since our graduation 13 years ago! Later that night, I was in Megamall (where I parked my car) and, guess what? I ran into another schoolmate who is about six years ahead of me, again, who I haven't had any contact with in more than 13 years! What an extraordinary day! :)
